The Kidney's own gathering place on the Gallbladder channel. Jingmen (GB-25) is the Mu Front collecting point of the Kidney — where the Kidney's Qi gathers on the surface of the body. It tends to the lower back, the water passages and the Kidney's vital energies, making it one of the key diagnostic and treatment points for everything the Kidney governs.
Name & story
The name 京门 Jingmen means "Capital Gate" or "Gate of the Capital." In ancient China, the capital was the seat of power, the place where everything of importance gathered and was administered. In the same way, this point is the gathering place — the front-facing "gate" — of the Kidney, the most fundamental of all organs, the root of Yin and Yang in the body. To call it the Capital Gate is to say: here is where the Kidney's power meets the outside world, where its Qi collects and can be reached.
Point family & character
GB-25 belongs to the Gallbladder Meridian (GB), yet its most important character has nothing to do with the Gallbladder: it is the Mu Front collecting point of the Kidney. Every organ has its own Mu point — a place on the chest or abdomen where the organ's Qi naturally gathers. GB-25 is the Kidney's such place, making it uniquely positioned to diagnose and treat Kidney disorders even though it sits on a different channel.
Five-element dynamics
The Kidney belongs to the Water element — the deepest, most fundamental force in the body, the root of all Yin and Yang, the storehouse of Jing. A Mu Front point is where an organ's Qi flows outward and collects on the front of the body. When the Kidney's Qi is disturbed — whether by deficiency, Cold, or difficult water metabolism — this point reflects it and responds to treatment. Through it, the Gallbladder channel, which runs along the flank, serves as a bridge reaching inward to the Kidney's Water domain.
Location
Find the lowest, floating rib on the side of the body — the twelfth rib. GB-25 sits right at its free (unattached) tip, on the lateral flank. It is close to its neighbour LR-13 (Zhangmen), which sits at the tip of the eleventh rib just above.
Anatomy & fascia
The point lies at the free end of the twelfth rib, on the lateral side of the abdomen.
Needling
The needle is inserted obliquely or perpendicularly with care, as the area is close to the kidney and surrounding structures.
Moxa, cupping & Tui Na
The golden tip
If you carry tension or aching in the lower back, try finding the tip of your lowest floating rib on each side — that is roughly where GB-25 sits. Gentle circular massage with your fingertips or thumbs, for a minute or two on each side, can ease local tension and stimulate the Kidney's gathering point. Warmth is especially welcome here: a warm compress or heat pack on the flank and lower back, covering the area of GB-25, is a simple home remedy for cold-type lower back aching.
