Every practitioner eventually builds a quiet arsenal of combinations that just work — not because they're fashionable, but because they deliver, session after session.

One trio I return to constantly:

  • Shuiquan (KI-5) — endlessly underrated. When a patient's cycle is irregular, painful, or their vision feels dull and strained, this gentle Kidney Xi-cleft point coaxes the Water back into rhythm in a way that feels almost effortless.
  • Shousanli (LI-10) — honestly, the unsung hero of the upper limb. Weakness, aching, reduced grip — this point addresses it all while quietly nudging digestion along. I call it 'the arm's Zusanli' and I mean it as the highest compliment.
  • Jizhong (GV-6) — the still centre of the Governing Vessel. When Dampness and Heat are brewing in the Middle Burner and the digestive organs feel sluggish and stuck, needling this midpoint of the spine brings a remarkable settling quality.

Together they speak to Kidney, Large Intestine, and the Governing Vessel — a conversation between Water, Metal, and the body's central axis.

What combinations do you reach for instinctively? I'd love to hear what's become indispensable in your practice.
