Nurturing Life (Yangsheng)
prevention & nutrition
Yangsheng refers to the philosophy of maintaining health and longevity, in which prevention is more important than treatment. It is based on aligning one’s lifestyle with the rhythms of nature: adjusting sleep and wakefulness patterns according to the time of day and the season, and practicing moderation in diet, work, and emotions. It values movement (tai chi, qigong), a calm mind, steady breathing, and careful nurturing of the “three treasures”—jing, qi, and shen. It is believed that the depletion of jing and constant intense emotions accelerate aging, while moderation and inner balance slow it down. Yangsheng emphasizes the individual’s responsibility for their own health.
